Profile: Warner McGowin
Warner McGowin joined McGowin-King in January 2011 to work for his father, Travis McGowin. From 1997 to 2011, Warner worked in the magazine publishing world, as managing editor of D Magazine in Dallas and, from 2003-2011, as Executive Editor of Southern Living, the 5th largest consumer magazine in the U.S. Warner’s publishing career included his election to Time Inc.’s annual Leadership Development Program and his department’s nomination for the Henry Luce Award, the publisher’s most prestigious editorial recognition. Southern Living’s Travel and Regional Editorial groups earned several national editorial awards under Warner’s leadership, growing into the magazine’s largest advertising revenue category.
A Birmingham native, Warner earned his undergraduate degree from Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont, and his MFA graduate degree from the University of Alabama. He is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Birmingham and past member of the Leadership Class of the Birmingham Chapter of the MS Society. His wife, Cathy, is editor of Birmingham Home and Garden magazine. They have three daughters and one son.
